The Benefits of Front-End Alignment

Front-End Alignment; tires; steering wheel vibrating

Have you ever noticed your vehicle wanting to pull left or right? Do your tires seem to go in different directions while driving? Is your steering wheel vibrating? If you answered “yes,” to any of these questions, then it may be time to get a front-end alignment!

Front-End Alignment vs. 4-Wheel Alignment

Front-end Alignment

“Front-end” or “Two-wheel” alignment is the alignment method used to calibrate the direction of the wheels on the front of the vehicle. This ensures that your tires are centered in the wheel wells and meet the road at the correct angle, so your wheels are pointing straight. Our technician will adjust the camber, toe, and caster on your vehicle. In addition, the technician may perform a “thrust angle adjustment,” where all four tires are made to be “squared” with one another.

4-Wheel Alignment

Alternatively, AWD vehicles require a “four-wheel” alignment to adjust the variables for each tire’s suspension. The technician will perform both a front and rear toe and caster adjustment.

Which one you’ll need is dependent on one critical factor: Is your vehicle all-wheel-drive? If so, then you’ll require a four-wheel alignment. Most vehicles will only require a two-wheel or front-end alignment. If you’re unsure, then ask your technician which one you’ll be needing.

How Will I Know It’s Time?

There are no dash light indicators for alignment issues (Not yet, anyway), so it can save you time and money to pay attention to the little details about the way your vehicle drives. These signs may not always be obvious, which is why regular check-ups and preventative maintenance are the best ways to avoid catastrophic failures!

Common Wheel Misalignment Signs

Things to watch out for may include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Vehicle pulling either direction
  • Steering Wheel Vibration
  • Over-abundant tire wear
  • Off-center steering wheel (Vehicle goes straight when the wheel is turned)

If you notice any of the above symptoms, you should have your vehicle checked as soon as possible!

Benefits of Front-End Alignment?

Some benefits you may notice immediately, while others may be noticed over some time. Nevertheless, the benefits of having a front-end alignment far outweigh the alternative option! A few of the more noticeable benefits will be:

  • Your vehicle drives straight again!
  • No pulling either direction
  • Steering feels firm and forward
  • No steering wheel vibration
  • Less wear on tires which means less money spent in the long run!
  • Less strain on the suspension means better gas mileage

Of course, all of this translates into the car driving more safely overall, but also translates into far less wear and tear of other suspension components!
